Rickey Teetz Tip Yuh dance takes off in Kingston dancehall

The last time a dance move migrated from Montego Bay to Kingston, it took over the world. That dance was Dutty Wine, and now, there is a feeling of déjà vu as the latest dance craze coming from the western end of the island, Tip Yuh, is gaining in popularity. The make-money-rain dance endorsed by new deejay Rickey Teetz, has now caught fire in the street dances of Kingston.

Since the start of June, Rickey Teetz has been aggressively campaigning the single in Kingston, and last week during the popular Mojito Mondays, selector Foota Hype played the song for 30 minutes during which the girls dancing the song received hefty ‘tips’ from enthusiastic males.

“Right now, the whole thing is very exciting because in Montego Bay, the song tek off because whenever it play in the West, the girls dem go crazy fi the song and dem guaranteed fi get some money. And now in Kingston, the g irl dem a ah endorse it because inna the gal segment, all the selectors dem a say ‘tip the gal dem’, and money ah rain down,” Rickey Teetz said.

Last week Thursday, Liverpool footballer Raheim Sterling shelled out big dollars to see the girls ‘bruk out’.

“Sterling was in the Lime Light club for Sparkling Thursdays, and a  crazy flossing, the man shell out over 100,000 fi mek the girls dem dance fi bout half hour pon a song name Tip Yuh. Every segment weh Foota play, him ah tell the man dem fi tip the gal, ah the new talk. Tip we say,” Rickey Teetz added.

The deejay will make an appearance at ‘Lip Gloss’ on July 12th at the Sexy Lizard, and high-end all-inclusive events such as Ink Up at Vista Ambassador on July 7th, the ‘Blackout’ at Pier One on July 6th , Shapes n Shades on July 20th. He is also a guest artiste on Xtasy set for August 11th.

“The Summer slap weh, the network of promoters  inna the west respect my music and what I am doing so that’s why the shows are coming in. My new songs Just Clap and Tip Yuh are really doing well in the dances out West. And the songs dem start play ah the street dances in Kingston, Foota Hype ah endorse the ting,” Rickey Teetz said.

Since breaking on the dancehall scene last year, Teetz has raised the temperature out west with his heat-seeking singles that have won him new fans out in the west. He shot videos for the songs, one for the bouncy single, ‘Just Clap’, recorded for Inspired Music on the Hot Up Riddim and the other for the hardcore single, Tip Yuh, on an amped-up dancehall riddim. The ‘Tip Yuh’ single is getting great airplay on HITZ, ZIP and IRIE.

“As an artiste in the local market, one has to be versatile, this is just another side of  RickeyTeetz. The ‘Just Clap’ is more a party song of enjoyment for everyone while ‘Tip Yuh’ is dedicated to the ladies who want to get their tips for dancing and shaking their assets. Music is very diverse so this is just my way of showing my fun party side,” he said.

Teetz first gained recognition for a conscious slate of songs that focused on the tenets of hard work, and perseverance in the face of poverty. But recently , he has demonstrated great versatility in doing a complete about-face to dancehall-inspired fare with booty-bouncing girls and songs that focus on dancehall excess and bling.
