The streets have been talking about a new combination single, ‘Hardcore Love’ with dancehall star Macka Diamond and Miami-based dancehall artiste Pretty Don.
No stranger to controversy, Macka Diamond runs the risk of provoking Christians with the line: ‘beat up mi body like the ‘Passion of Christ’.
“Some of my fans have been saying that I didn’t have to use a religious metaphor when talking about sex, but that is what artistes do, we challenge conventions and express ourselves differently,” she said.
Pretty Don, widely regarded as Miami’s number one ‘player’, wrote the song and he is ready to take the music world by storm after he was federally incarcerated for 3 years. This rookie’s energetic flow and cunning metaphors have made the song one of the fastest rising songs on local FM radio.
“So many people give mi dem back if I was a chiropractor I would be da richest,” he said jokingly.
He said music was his only escape while he was incarcerated and therefore he decided to use his God given talent, and transform his setback, a preparation for a bigger comeback.
After achieving great success in partnership and promotions in strip clubs such as KOD and Diamonds, he lived lavishly driving the finest cars and living with the finest honeys, the ultimate life that rappers only dream about.
“So when you listen to Pretty Don, you get a real piece of me, and not some guy a imagine some lie fi sing and sing fi bling. I did it all before without a record deal, ” he said.
Pretty Don was born in Kingston and he grew up in Rema and Trench Town in Arnett Gardens.
“I used to listen to Bob Marley music regularly played by my Rastafarian uncles, so that’s my first inspiration musically and later, artistes such as Ninjaman, Shabba, Bounty Killa, Mad Cobra, Capleton and Vybz Kartel,” he said.
Pretty Don said that he wrote the chorus of the single based on a true experience he had.
“A promoter mutual friend of mine thought Macka Diamond would be perfect to do the female part so I flew her in and vibe da song. I made da beat live in da studio, and made up da lyrics on spot. That’s why da song got that natural vibe and real energy,” he said.
Pretty Don is also getting a buzz with ‘Bentley Body/Punaany’ on the new sizzling, ‘Been Bad’ riddim produced by the talented Kirk Thuglas of K Ent. He also has a collaboration called ‘Clean Suh’ featuring Kirk Thuglass on his own label, Madd Swagg Entertainment.
“Look out for Pretty Don like your house surrounded,” he said.
