Reggae fans have been asking whether the so-called Reggae Revival can officially be called a “failure”? Is it dead already? Well, it appears so. We don’t have a bunch of Marxist intellectuals ‘rassing’ their hair and spouting leftist jibber-jabber, or even touting Haile Selassie as the one true living God. We just have some pretty blasé’ paint-by-the-numbers songs on borrowed riddims from the glorious 70s and 80s.
This new generation has failed to ignite the imagination of the masses who are too busy hustling for a living while hopped up on rum and Boom cocktails while listening to Vybz Kartel and Alkaline sing about female genitals and stacks of dollars.
