US-based Jamaican dancehall artiste Double DDee is generating a buzz with her saucy single, ‘Birthday Sex’ featuring Shawn Ice. She will be amping up promotion of her single in 2016.
“My video was shot by Aroll productions in November and is scheduled for release in January, the feedback has been incredible so far,” she said.
The risqué lyrics of ‘Birthday Sex’ and the playful interaction between Shawn Ice and Double DDee have made it a favourite among teens.
“The audio video of ‘Birthday Sex’ has been released on VEVO’s new urban channel that facilitates a lot of reggae music. A video gamer put birthday sex in a fame called ‘Second Life’ and I shared a clip on my artiste page and got over 133,000 views since the second week of November,” she said.
The artiste, whose real name is Debbie Duran first came to public attention with the hard-hitting single, ‘Telephone Bad Gal’, which racked up regular spins on SunCity Radio and HITZ FM. Another single, Real Hard, on the Drywall rhythm, produced by Twizz, also did well on video sharing platforms. She embraces her US and Jamaican heritage.
“I embrace both cultures because I sing, rap and deejay,” she said.
Double DDee is also an entrepreneur as she kick-started her own record label and publishing company, Davgion, in 2014. There are two dancehall-reggae acts currently signed to the label: Chinsu and Firstborn LNJ.
Earlier this year, the Davgion label released an EP with four singles. The songs were Wall Paper, When Yu Wine, Run Run and Me Have the Leathering, all for the talented Chinsu.
“We are capable of wearing many hats, I am the intellectual bad-ass, I can do this. I am a triple threat. Deejaying on beats is something that I have always wanted to do, and I am loving the feedback I have been getting so far,” she said.
