Born Sadiki Powell on September 13th , he grew up in Kingston as the second child for his mother and father.
In his formative years, he lived in Seaview Gardens with his mother and grandmother, and at the age of 10, Dimon moved to Portmore to live with his aunt after the sudden passing of his mother. While growing up in Portmore, he developed a love for music, and got the nickname ‘Dimon’ from his friends who loved the polished, and pure quality of his voice.
He migrated to the United States at the age of 15, and while in New York, Dimon attended high school and continued pursuing his music. In 2005 when he met the talented producer, Buda Nureesh through a mutual friend. Buda, a local businessman in Queens, NY always had an interest in music, but when he heard Dimon sing for the first time, he decided to launch into music with all his energy. Buda soon launched his Rizing Starz Records label, and built a studio and inked a recording deal with Dimon in 2005.
That year, Rizing Starz Records released his first single and video “I Can’t Believe my Eyes”, and the song did well, charting on Suzie Q’s Reggae Top Ten Countdown for several weeks. During his time in New York, Dimon carved out an enviable reputation as a local Queen’s artist performing at events all over the Big Apple, including one of New York’s biggest annual reggae concerts Irie Jamboree in 2008. He even produced his own events, throwing an ultra-successful popular yearly event dubbed “Rizing Starz Army Fatigue” party.
“My fan base reached more than just New York, as I was booked for shows and I also performed in other states as well such as Maine, Tennessee, Boston, New Jersey and Connecticut,” he said.
In early 2012 Dimon packed up his studio and moved back to Jamaica more determined than ever to make an impact. Today, Dimon is back in Portmore where it all started and now his career is about to blow up like Roman candle given the buzz round the Rizing Starz Records-produced single, “Gal Dem We Love”.
“I decided to come to Jamaica because it is the origin for Reggae music and that’s why I am here, to take my career to the next level, and it is already paying off, the Gal Dem Mi Love video is doing well on local TV, and the song gets daily rotation on IRIE FM and Suncity Radio,” he said.
