Iconic reggae producer Clive Hunt is overjoyed that he has realized a childhood dream of producing a movie soundtrack. He is the mastermind behind the brilliant soundtrack of the film ‘Destiny’ which has been generating incredible box office since its release a few weeks ago.
“As a teenager studying music overseas at Kneller Hall in London, I had always wanted to do something like that, and it was a special moment for me when I saw Destiny for the first time and experienced my work in that forum. It was incredible, people have said that the score was brilliant,” Mr. Hunt told Loop News.
He graduated from the Royal Military School of Music (RMSM) in London in the 1970s. RMSM occupies Kneller Hall – recognized as the home of Army music since its foundation in 1857 – near Twickenham, just 9 miles from central London
“What is special about the Destiny movie is that all the talent is homegrown, and it is high quality. It is like Hollywood filming Jamaica in terms of the quality, and the soundtrack is getting a lot of buzz overseas. People keep calling me about a young man called Yahsha from Montego Bay who sings two songs on the soundtrack, Destiny and Real Woman, they love him,” he said.
Clive Hunt is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer and producer. He has enjoyed success as a producer and musician woking with the likes of Beres Hammond, Judy Mowatt, The Abyssinians, and Garnett Silk, and recorded with Jimmy Cliff, Steely & Clevie, and The Rolling Stones. He is now signed to VP Records and he produced Etana’s chart-topping album on the Billboard Reggae charts,.
The Destiny soundtrack features work from the film’s main stars Christopher Martin and Karian Sang as well as known Jamaican acts Busy Signal, Tifa, and Spice. Paris-based reggae artiste Bazil as well as Garnett Silk Jr, and Angele Smith are also featured on the set.
The project is produced by Clive Hunt with Dwain ‘Wiya’ Campbell as co-producer. Jeremy Whittaker, director of the ‘Destiny’ movie, is credited as executive producer.
As for theatrical releases, London is the next stop for Destiny. The film should open there by Christmas this year, with North America and other territories in Europe being on the list during 2015.
