The nation recoiled in horror at the gruesome chopping murder of 3-year-old Nevalesia Campbell of Orange Hill, St Ann. But justice may yet be on the horizon as Alexus Newland, the main suspect, has now been charged with her murder.
Newland, also known as ‘Dal Dal’, was charged on Wednesday evening, July 13.
According to SSP Wayne Cameron, head of the St Ann police, Newland was charged after a question-and-answer session.
Newland, a resident of Milford in the parish is to appear in court at a later date.
Nevalesia was snatched from her home on Sunday morning while her mother and stepfather were at a party. Both were subsequently charged with neglect.
She was reported missing about 1:30 that said morning.
A search party comprised of residents and police conducted a search of the community of Orange Hill when Newland reportedly ‘recovered’ the body in bushes over a precipice.
