Even as the Jamaica Constabulary Force swore in its 29th commissioner of police, George Quallo, at a ceremony at the Police Officers Club in Kingston, criminals continue the bloodletting and mayhem that has made the island one of the most violent in the Western hemisphere.
On Friday, evening a police officer was shot to death on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew, in the vicinity of the Merl Grove High School, sending the busy metropolis into a tailspin, snarling traffic and shocking students on their way home from school.
Details are unclear at the moment, but the incident has been confirmed by the police and images of the crime scene with the deceased cop have been circulating on social media.
