The accused driver of the ill-fated vehicle that plunged into the Rio Cobre river, killing five people, was remanded again when he appeared in the St. Catherine Parish Court earlier this week.
The driver, El Fargo Slew, is charged with no driver’s licence, no motor vehicle insurance and six counts of manslaughter.
Senior Parish Judge Tara Reid-Carr told Slew that the court was of the view that he would not make himself available for his court appearances and as such was remanded until November 4, 2016.
Allegations are that Slew was driving a Suzuki Grand Vitara in July when he reportedly tried to overtake a truck in the vicinity of the Flat Bridge, and lost control of the vehicle.
Bishop Stephen Ricketts, his two sons Shevaughnie and Sujay of Commodore; 29-year-old Benjamin Ellis and 21-year-old Shantel Morris of Tawes Pen – all of St Catherine, drowned.
Slew and another man are the only survivors of the tragedy.
